Weekend 2010 wrap-up and review

Crawley and Skinner score wins during 4 race USCS Speed weekend 2010

Atlanta, GA - July 5, 2010 - Tim Crawley dominated the United Sprint Car Series presented by Goodyear four race Independence Holiday weekend tour by winning the first three of the events and finishing in third place in the final event of the four race Independence Day holiday weekend mini-series. Marshall Skinner from West Memphis, Arkansas stopped Crawley's win streak at three with a win on the final night at Camden Motor Speedway.

Crawley was driving the #99 "Tennessee Tornado" Hooker Hood tribute car prepared for the weekend series by his (Mike) Ward Racing owner and crew but owned by Dennis and Jeri Benjamin from Millington, Tennessee. The familiar #99 black and gold car struck gold on the Thursday night July 1st at Hood's familiar battle ground, the historic Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Arkansas.

Crawley drove past early race-leader and defending track Champion, Jeff Swindell from Bartlett, Tennessee on lap twenty and raced to victory lane to be greeted by screaming fans and the legendary Hooker Hood himself. The emotionally moved Crawley took the photo opportunities with the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame inductee and then saluted Hood by handing him the coveted winner's trophy to keep.

Prior to the Hooker Hood Sprint Car Shootout event, fans were able to enjoy looking at three of the cars that Hood drove during his legendary career including the winged #99 Gold Super modified dirt car that Hood drove to 56 wins in 63 starts in the mid-sixties including a Championship win at the ¼ mile Nationals in Marshall, Missouri.

In race number two on the weekend at Malden Speedway in Malden, Missouri, on Friday, July 2nd Crawley was again driving the Hooker Hood tribute car #99. On lap five of the sprint car portion of the Fireworks 150 Crawley charged past early race-leader and 2009 USCS Rookie of the Year, Justin Carver into the lead before a standing room only crowd and proceeded to victory lane for the second night in a row.

Race number three found the United Sprint Car Series at the high, high banks of Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, Tennessee on Saturday, July 3rd turning laps in the 10 second bracket around the well groomed high speed ¼ mile red clay oval. Young gun Lee Sowell from Nesbit, Mississippi won the Goodyear Speed Dash and Engler Machine and Tool First Heat race. Crawley also won his Butlerbuilt Second Heat race.

After following early-leaders, Jerod Roller from Olive Branch, Mississippi and defending series Champion Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee for the first eight laps, Crawley passed Gray for the lead on lap nine of the USCS presented by Goodyear 30-lap sprint car main event and proceeded to victory lane for the third night in a row. The "Hooker Hood Rides Again" tour rolled on toward night four.

The final night of racing at Camden Motor Speedway in Camden, Tennessee had all those following the mini-series progress wondering if Crawley would indeed sweep the weekend. But, Three-time 2010 USCS presented by Goodyear feature winner Marshall Skinner from West Memphis, Arkansas came to race and race he did. After watching Crawley win the Goodyear Speed Dash, Skinner collected the win in the Engler Machine and Tool First Heat race. Justin Carver from Drummonds, Tennessee won the Butlerbuilt second heat race. Skinner then drew a zero inversion in the K&N Filters Pole Award drawing and started the main event from the K&N Filters Pole Position. He then led every lap to collect his fourth USCS presented by Goodyear main event win of the season. Jeff Swindell from Bartlett, Tennessee finished in the runner-up spot followed by Crawley in third place. Justin Carver finished fourth after being in the second position most of the race and defending series Champion, Terry Gray also from Bartlett, Tennessee completed the top five.

Complete results are posted below for each of these events.
